Things turned a little rough near the end of Boerne High’s basketball game with Wimberley Tuesday night, but it didn’t take away from the Greyhounds winning another district championship.

BHS defeated the Texans, 62-44, to remain perfect in 28-4A, and in the process the Hounds claimed their fifth district title in a row and 10th in the last 13 seasons.

Boerne improves to 25-6 overall and 8-0 in district. Wimberley has two losses in 28-4A with two left so even if the Hounds drop their last two, they still own the district championship because they own the tiebreaker over the Texans with the sweep.

Boerne hosts Bandera on Friday and then visits Davenport to close out the regular season Tuesday.

Tempers flared after a hard foul by the Texans on Houston Hendrix late in Tuesday’s contest. Players came off the bench were eventually separated and each side lost three players to ejections.

The Hounds will be down those three players for Bandera since they have to sit out the next game after an ejection, while Wimberley is in the same boat.

Things were tight early in the first half on Tuesday. The Hounds were only ahead by two points at the end of one, 11-9, as both teams struggled with fouls.

Wimberley had collected 10 fouls by early in the second quarter to put BHS in the double bonus, while the Hounds had 7 fouls in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Boerne settled down in the second and broke a 17-17 tie with Wimberley. They outscored the Texans in the period, 17-11, for the 28-20 halftime lead.

The Hounds and Texans traded buckets in the third and BHS won the quarter by a point, 14-13, for the 42-33 lead and then Boerne pulled away in the fourth by outscoring the Texans, 20-11, for the 18-point win.

Devin Styles led the Hounds with 23 points, Barrett Pape scored 16, Houston Hendrix added 11, Koen Wolff netted 6, Preston Thompson finished with 4 and Trevor Agarwal had 2.

Hendrix made it a double-double and grabbed 12 rebounds, while he and Pape both dished out 4 assists.
