The Comfort Deer basketball team spent day No. 364 of 2022 near the headwaters of the Frio River in Leakey and suffered a 14-point defeat.
Leakey won the contest, 43-29, against a shorthanded Deer team that was without several players due to holiday travel.
With the loss, Comfort slips to 11-12 this year. They hosted Hondo on Tuesday before beginning District 5-3A play at home on Friday against Brady.
In last Friday’s game, the Deer were up 10-3 at the end of one, but Leakey climbed back into the contest in the second and outscored Comfort, 15-2, for the 18-12 halftime lead.
The Deer won the third period, 12-10, but were still trailing 28-24, however Leakey ran away with it in the fourth quarter by tripling up the Comfort girls 15-5.
Meghan Davis had almost half the team’s points and tallied 13 points and 12 rebounds to make it a double-double, Bailey Feldman finished with 7 points and 9 boards, Katie Haffner scored 6 and Katelyn Cook netted 3.
Feldman also recorded 4 steals, while Haffner and Jael Hernandez both dished out 3 assists.
