Because of a lack of games, the Boerne Champion girls basketball team played in the Wimberley tourney instead of taking part in the Boerne ISD Holiday Tournament.
There were only four girl’s teams entered at this year’s event and if the Lady Chargers had played in the BISD tourney, they would have only been guaranteed two games – against Katy Taylor and Floresville.
The only other teams entered in the BISD tourney were Boerne High and Kerrville Tivy. Since the Boerne ISD schools don’t regularly play against each other, a game against BHS was out and since Tivy is a district opponent and they’ll be playing them soon, neither wanted to play that game.
Instead, the Chargers went to the Wimberley tourney that started Wednesday and continued through Friday. Champion won its two games on Wednesday against Austin Navarro 76-17 and later defeated Antonian, 69-47, to start the tourney at 2-0.
For results of the event, be sure to look in the Boerne Star.
