The new-look Boerne High boys basketball team defeated the Southside Cardinals Monday in a non-district basketball game at Greyhound Gym.
Boerne won the game, 82-31, and improved to 11-5 overall. The Hounds are off until they help co-host the Boerne ISD Tournament next Tuesday and Wednesday.
This year’s tourney is scaled down a bit, but the Greyhounds will still play four games. They face Flour Bluff Tuesday at noon and Kerrville Tivy at 4:30 p.m. in the last game of the day at BHS.
Boerne returns on Wednesday to play Seguin at 9 a.m. and then tangles with Gregory-Portland at 1:30 p.m. in the last game of the day at Greyhound Gym.
The reason the Greyhounds had a new look on Monday was because they were joined by six members of the state runner up football team after they played in the championship game last Friday.
Two of the football players, Koen Wolff and Jeffrey Brown, even suited up and contributed to the win.
BHS coach Kimble McHone said he hopes the other four – Sam Waters, Hutson Hendrix, Houston Hendrix and Jaxon Baize – will play in the tournament but will give them as much time as they need to heal up after a long football season that went almost five months.
In Monday’s game, Trevor Agarwal knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points, Wolff scored 6 points and even threw down a dunk in the third quarter, Colton Hoegemeyer netted 4, Casen Hoegemeyer added 16, Barrett Pape led the team with 22 points, Sam Holland chipped in with 10 points, Luke Fox hit for 2 and Brown scored 8 in the game.
