The Boerne Champion girls basketball team bounced back from its district- opening loss to Wagner and beat Veterans Memorial on Saturday afternoon at Charger Gym.

The Lady Chargers pounded the Lady Patriots by 50 points, 75-25, in a game moved from Friday to Saturday since the district closed on Friday for the Boerne High state championship football game.

Champion is 1-1 in district and improves to 13-4 overall. The Lady Chargers continued district play Monday at New Braunfels Canyon. After that, Champion is off until they play in the Wimberley Tournament. They will not play in the Boerne ISD tourney next week.

The teams were fairly even in the first half, but Veterans Memorial appeared to run out of gas in the second half, while the Lady Chargers kept their foot on the gas pedal.

Champion was up 17-10 at the end of one and then outscored the Patriots in the second stanza, 21-9, and took a 38-19 lead into the halftime break, but Veterans Memorial only scored six points in the entire second half.

The Lady Patriots only recorded 2 points in the third and 4 in the second as their offense went cold, while Champion heated up with 22 in the third and 15 in the fourth to outscore Veterans Memorial, 37-6, over the final two periods.

Addison Hankins has been playing well and made 10 field goals on her way to 21 points to lead all scorers. Grace Erbstoesser was also in double digits with 18 points.

Alivia Gonzales and Hudson Lonsdale both netted 7, Bralyn Gault and Olivia Keilman finished with 6 points apiece, Kayla Ramirez and Adriana Barreiro chipped in with 4 each and Christine McGinn made two free throws for two points.
