The Boerne Champion girls basketball team closed out non-district play on Saturday after doubling up Cuero, 60-30 on Saturday and bumping its record to 12-3.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday but moved to Saturday because the Gobblers football team was playing in the state semifinals Friday in the Alamodome before the Boerne High – Tyler Chapel Hill contest.
Champion opens up district play Tuesday at Wagner for its first game in 26-5A and then hosts Veterans Memorial on Friday.
In Saturday’s game, the Lady Chargers doubled up Cuero in the first quarter 16-8 and then tripled up the Lady Gobblers in the second, 21-7, for the 37-15 halftime lead.
Cuero played better in the second half but the Lady Chargers still outscored them in both the third and fourth quarters.
Champion won the third quarter, 10-8, and then took the final stanza, 13-7, to outscore the Lady Gobblers in the second half, 23-15, to cruise to the win.
