William E. Faery has filed as a candidate for the Tuesday, March 1, Republican primary election. He is seeking the seat of Precinct 2 justice of the peace.
Faery is a 38-year resident of Texas. He said his duties as a soldier and contractor have taken him around the world and back for most of his adult life. He chose to plant his feet in Kendall County after serving his country for more than 31 years.
He joined the U.S. Army in September 1989 and served as a combat medic. He played many roles as a non-commissioned officer (NCO), including senior medic, platoon sergeant, patient treatment room NCO in charge as well as medical education and demonstration of individual competence (M.E.D.I.C.) coordinator and Instructor for Ft. Bliss, Texas.
Faery’s combat deployments include Desert Shield/Desert Storm in Iraq, Operation Intrinsic Action in Kuwait and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He said he earned numerous medals for his actions, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Liberation of Kuwait Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Faery said he also was asked to be a guest speaker at the 68W Combat Medic Conference in San Antonio. His subject focused on his combat experience in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan. He spoke to more than 300 officers, doctors, medics and nurses on how he dealt with 13 mass casualty events in a six-month period with next to no on-the-ground medical support.
“We were on our own,” Faery said. “You had to stay cool.”
After 23 years of service to the U.S. Army, Faery retired and opened a small business. Legion Tactical Medic Training provided medical training to federal, state and local law enforcement in the El Paso and West Texas areas.
He attended El Paso Community College in search of a paramedic degree, but was cut short. He was chosen to be a personal security medic in service of the U.S. State Department, providing executive protection to the ambassador and other clients at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Faery’s duty was interrupted after eight years as Kabul fell into the hands of the Taliban on August 15, 2021.
“It definitely wasn’t in the plans,” Faery said of the rapid withdrawal from the embassy.
He was put on a plane two days before Kabul was overrun by the Taliban, five days before the official fall.
Faery’s return was abrupt, but he said he is glad to be home in Boerne. He said he is ready to serve his community with the same vigor and enthusiasm he has given to his country over the last 30-plus years.
Faery said he is a staunch conservative Republican and is devoted to the party and to serving the constituents of Kendall County, adding he is steadfast in his values and in his intentions to keeping the feel of Kendall County easy and uncomplicated.
Faery said he has proven his devotion to God and country for decades and now wants to devote himself to the community. He said he will be honored to serve Kendall County as justice of the peace in Precinct 2.
