The Bobcat boys basketball team traveled to Marion on Tuesday and suffered a 21-point loss at the hands of the Bulldogs.
Marion won the latest battle of dogs vs. cats and pulled out the 65-44 win. With the loss the Comfort Cats fall to 3-6 on the season. They’ll host the Comfort Tournament this weekend that started Thursday and continues through Saturday with the championship game slated for 1:30 p.m. in the new gym on Saturday.
Comfort kept it close early and was only down by three points at the end of the first period, 15-12, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the second by outscoring the Cats, 19-9, for the 34-21 halftime edge.
Marion took the third quarter by 10 points, 17-7, and opened up a 51-28 advantage. The Bobcats battled to the end and won the final stanza, 16-14, but the Bulldogs prevailed.
Terick Rodriguez led the Cats with 9 points, Ollie Engleman scored 8, Jaydin Steward chipped in with 7, Caleb Van Geffen came up with 6, Landon Aguirre and Joel Lozano both netted 4, Santos Hernandez chipped in with 3, Jovani Zapata hit for 2 and Eli Gilliland made a free throw.
Travis Randle led Marion with 19 points, Dom Castellanos added 18 and Richard Reyes tallied 11 as three Bulldogs were in double digits.
