Boerne Champion hosted Alamo Heights in a girls non-district basketball game on Tuesday and defeated the Mules, 59-45.
The Chargers are 7-3 overall and entered in the River City Classic tournament at New Braunfels Canyon that started Thursday and continues through Saturday.
Champion took advantage of a slow start by the Lady Mules on Tuesday. Alamo Heights only scored 8 points in each of the first two quarters for 16 points at the break, while the Lady Chargers were in double digits in the first two periods.
They tallied 20 in the opening stanza and followed that up with 11 points in the second for the 31-16 halftime lead.
The Mules played better in the second half but couldn’t catch the Chargers. Heights actually outscored Champion in the third but only by a point at 16-15 and Champion’s lead was 46-32. The teams played even in the final stanza, and both dropped in 13 points apiece to give the Chargers the 14-point win.
Champion had two in double figures after Madyson Marquard netted 13 points and Grace Erbstoesser tallied 11 points.
Adriana Barreiro finished with 9 points, Olivia Keilman dropped in two 3-pointers and had a 2-pointer to finish with 8 points, while Hudson Lonsdale and Addison Hankins recorded 7 points apiece and Bralyn Gault hit a 3.
