Deer sail away from Lady Pirates, 47-9

The Comfort Deer basketball team hosted Center Point on Tuesday and came away with a convincing 47-9 victory at home over the Lady Pirates.

With the win, the Deer improved to 7-4 on the season. The Comfort girls continue their season this weekend where they’ll play in the Harper Tournament.

Center Point really struggled to get anything going on Tuesday and didn’t score a point in the first half. The Deer dropped in 12 in the first and 10 in the second for the 22-0 halftime lead. Center Point tallied 5 points in the third and 4 in the fourth to finish with 9 points in the game, while the Deer netted 17 in the third and 8 in the final period.

Jackie Zapata and Bailey Feldman led the Deer with 11 points each, Danielle Ruelas scored 6, Jael Hernandez finished with 5, Meghan Davis netted 4, Katelyn Cook and Katie Haffner both scored 3, while Janelly Lopez and Emily Rivera chipped in with 2 points each.

Zapata made it a double-double with 10 rebounds to go with her 11 points and had 3 steals, Davis grabbed 7 boards, while Feldman and Lula Jaime both snagged 6 rebounds, while Hernandez dished out 7 assists.
