Chargers fall to Fred, beat Stevens

Champion lost to No. 2 state-ranked 4A Fredericksburg last Monday but rebounded to beat Stevens on Tuesday.

The Lady Chargers are 6-3 overall and hosted Alamo Heights on Tuesday in a non-district contest.

Vs. Fredericksburg

Champion had a slow start and only scored two points in the first quarter. They were down 12-2 after one and made a nice comeback but Fred held on for the 46-39 win.

Addison Hankins was the only Charger player in double figures after she netted 11. Grace Erbstoesser scored 8, Madyson Marquard finished with 5, Adriana Barreiro netted 4, Hudson Londsdale, Olivia Keilman and Bralyn Gault tallied 3 points apiece, while Christine McGinn added 2.

Vs. Stevens

The Lady Chargers won a high-scoring game over Stevens on Tuesday, 81-77.

Champion tallied 22 and 29 points in the first half for 51 points at the break for the 51-31 lead. They added 21 points in the third for 72 points after three quarter but Stevens dropped in 28 in the third to get back into it.

The Chargers slowed down in the fourth and only netted 9, while the Falcons doubled them up in the final period and finished with 18, but it wasn’t enough to catch Champion.

Madyson Marquard led the team with 22 points, Grace Erbstoesser tallied 16, Adriana Barreiro dropped in a dozen and Olivia Keilman made it four Chargers in double figures with 10.

Alivia Gonzales added 6, Bralyn Gault, Addison Hankins and Hudson Lonsdale all tallied 4, while Christine McGinn chipped in with 3.
