Lady Hounds capture 1st at SAISD Tournament

The Boerne High girls basketball team bumped its record to 6-0 and managed to stay perfect this year after capturing first place at the SAISD tournament last weekend.

The Boerne High girls basketball team bumped its record to 6-0 and managed to stay perfect this year after capturing first place at the SAISD tournament last weekend.

BHS went 4-0 at the tournament held in historic Alamo Gymnasium and beat Antonian for the championship on Saturday afternoon.

Jamie Ruede was named Tournament MVP, while Abby Smith and Averi Aaron were both named to the All-Tournament Team.

Boerne hosted Highlands on Monday and will take a week off after that for the Thanksgiving weekend. The Lady Hounds won’t return to the court until they play against Sam Houston on Nov. 29.

At the tourney, BHS basically steamrolled everybody they faced. The Lady Hounds opened with a 74-30 win over Eagle Pass Winn on Thursday. On Friday, Boerne High beat St. Mary’s Hall by 50 points, 64-14, and later in the day, the Lady Greyhounds topped S.A. Incarnate Word by 20 points in the tourney semifinals, 46-26.

Friday’s win over the Lady Shamrocks advanced Boerne to the title game where they ran past Antonian, 64-39, for the championship.

Boerne won its four games by a combined score of 139 points for an average of 35 points per win.
