A strong start propelled the Geneva School of Boerne girls basketball team to a victory over San Antonio Christian.
Geneva won Tuesday’s contest, 60-50, over the Lady Lions and stays perfect at 3-0 this year. The Eagles are scheduled to play in the Cornerstone Tournament this weekend that started Thursday.
Geneva jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the first quarter for the 12-point advantage and then won the game by 10 points as they swapped baskets the rest of the way.
SACS took the second period, 17-15, to give Geneva a 35-25 lead at halftime.
The Lions closed the gap in the third quarter after outscoring Geneva, 15-11, and the Eagles lead was down to 46-40 as the game went into the final stanza.
In the fourth period, Geneva finished the game by dropping in 14 points and holding the Lions to 10 to earn the double-digit win.
Maegan Riebel led the Eagles with 22 points and Kyra Petty added 21 points as the duo scored 43 of the team’s 60 points. Geneva hit 10 3-pointers and Petty had 5 of them, while five others had one each.
Bethany Deluna netted 5, Madeline Egbert, Morgan Howard and Suzie Nilsson all scored 3 points and Brynn Riebel chipped in with 2.
Petty led the team on the boards and collected 7 rebounds, Brynn Riebel had 6 boards and 4 assists and Maegan Riebel came up with 5 steals.
