The Greyhounds jumped out to a 31-0 lead over CHS before recording a 38-14 victory over the Bobcats.

Comfort’s season comes to an end at 3-8 while Taft improves to 9-2 and moves on to the second round of the 3A DII playoffs.

Joshua Suarez put the Greyhounds on the board with 8:40 left in the first quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run, and the extra point made it 7-0.

Later in the quarter, Aden Guidry booted a 26-yard field goal, and Taft took a 10-0 lead into the second quarter.

The Greyhounds added to their lead early in the second when Efrain Ozona caught an 8-yard TD pass from Johnny Acosta and the PAT made it 17-0 with 10:44 left before halftime.

It turned into a defensive battle the rest of the quarter as neither team scored before the break, and the Greyhounds held a 17-point lead at intermission.

Early in the third, Suarez scored on a 29-yard run and the Greyhounds increased its lead to 24-0. Later in the period Johnny Acosta tacked on another TD with an 18-yard run and Taft pulled ahead 31-0 with 1:55 left in the third.

Comfort finally got on the board later in the stanza after Micah Nye punched it in from the 1-yard line and it was 31-7 with 56 ticks left in the third after the Adolfo Campos kick.

The Bobcats scored again after Sam Tucker rambled in from 36 yards and it was 31-14 early in the fourth quarter.

But that’s as close as the Cats’ comeback would get.

Taft put the game away with a 1-yard run with 6:05 remaining to make it 38-14 which is where it stayed until the end.
