The cold weather that blew in Friday didn’t stop the Geneva football team.

The Eagles heated up to the tune of 49 points on its way to a 49-13 victory over Magnolia Legacy Prep on Friday.

Geneva improves to 6-5 overall and advances to the second round where they’ll face Cyprus Christian in Hallettsville Friday, 7 p.m.

It was close early when Jayden McCammon ran for a 5-yard TD and the Walker Cone kick made it 7-0, but Legacy Prep answered with a 31-yard TD pass later in the quarter to tie it up at 7-7.

Geneva started to pull away from there and scored 20 points in that second quarter. McCammon found the end zone again on another short run to make it 13-7 after the missed PAT.

Landon Grimes added to the lead when he rushed for a 10-yard touchdown. The Eagles went for the 2-point try and didn’t covert but still held a 19-7 lead.

McCammon continued his big night and scored his third touchdown of the game to make it 27-7 after he also ran in the 2-point try.

Once the game went into the second half, the Eagles added to their lead in the third after Grimes scored on a 16-yard run to bump the score to 35-7 after McCammon ran in another 2-point try.

Early in the fourth, McCammon scored his fourth touchdown of the game, this one from six yards out and it was 42-7 after the Cone kick.

Grimes put the game away later in the period after he rambled in from 10 yards to push Geneva’s lead to 49-7 with his third TD.

Legacy Prep didn’t go down without a fight and had a 49-yard run for a score, but Geneva went on to post a 49-13 win.

McCammon ran for four touchdowns and Grimes three as they combined for seven touchdowns as the Eagles rushed for 395 yards, all on the ground and only attempted one pass all night with the stiff wind.
