The Jason Sanders era kicked off at Boerne Champion Tuesday night when the Lady Chargers hosted Northside Marshall to begin the 2022-23 girls basketball season.

Sanders picked up his first win with the Lady Chargers and starts the year at 1-0 after Champion battered the Lady Rams, 65-43.

The Lady Chargers are entered in the Rouse Tournament this weekend that started Thursday and continues through Saturday.

Champion won the first quarter, 20-14, and then outscored the Rams in the second, 15-11, to take a 35-25 lead into halftime.

Marshall made a little push in the third quarter and cut it to seven points but that’s as close as they would get to catching the Lady Chargers.

After a Sanders timeout, Champion corrected its course and sailed away with the win. They outscored the Rams in the third, 13-9, to build a 48-34 advantage.

The Lady Chargers again held Marshall to nine points in the fourth quarter and never allowed the Rams to hit in double digits in the third or fourth periods after they had tallied 14 in the first and 11 in the second.

Champion closed out the game by scoring 17 points, it’s second-best stanza of the night to almost match the 20 they had in the first quarter.

Olivia Keilman knocked down three 3s before finishing with 15 points to lead the Chargers in scoring, while Hudson Lonsdale hit two 3-pointers on her way to 14 points and Madyson Marquard also chipped in with 14 points.

Adriana Barreiro tallied 9 points, Addison Hankins got to the line six times in the opening period and sank five of her free throws and added a 2-pointer to finished with 7 points, Bralyn Gault netted 3 points, Christine McGinn scored 2 and Grace Erbstoesser hit a free throw.
