Better late than never for the Comfort football team.
The Bobcats needed a win on the final night of the regular season, and they got it on the road Friday in San Antonio against South San West Campus.
Comfort rolled past the winless Cougars, 55-7, to secure the final postseason berth up for grabs in District 15-3A DII.
The Cats end the regular season at 3-7 and their 3-3 mark in league play earns them the fourth and final spot available in the district. They’ll open the postseason this week. For details, be sure to check the Boerne Star.
Comfort may have won Friday’s game in a blowout, but it was tied early at 7-7.
After Comfort’s Sam Tucker put the Bobcats on the board with a 22-yard touchdown jaunt to make it 7-0, West Campus answered later in the quarter thanks to a Bobcats fumble on a trick play that they returned for a score, and the contest was tied.
But the rest of the night belonged to the Bobcats who scored seven straight touchdowns to pull away.
Topper Sterling ran in the ball from the 4-yard line, and it was 14-7 in the first.
Then, Jaydin Steward busted loose on a 70-yard sprint, and it was 21-7 to end the first quarter.
The Bobcats kept their foot on the pedal after Sterling and Steward, both tacked on second-quarter touchdown runs to open up a 35-7 lead by halftime.
Early in the third quarter, Cats QB Micah Nye called his own number and ran it in from 33 yards to bump the lead to 41-7.
Later in the period, Nye threw a touchdown pass to Mason West that went for 13 yards and a score and the lead ballooned to 48-7 with just seven seconds left in the third.
In the final period, Sterling capped the game with his third score of the night, this time on a 5-yard dash to paydirt to make it 55-7 and secure a playoff berth for the Bobcats, their first since the 2020 season.
