The Lady Chargers are back – back in the playoffs that is – after the Champion volleyball team clinched a postseason berth Tuesday at Pieper.
Pieper actually won the first game on Tuesday, 14-25, but Champion captured the next three to take the match, 26-24, 25-19, 25-15. The Lady Chargers improve to 30-9 overall and 8-4 in district.
Champion has two left in the regular season and is fighting Kerrville Tivy for seeding. They visited Smithson Valley on Friday and host the Lady Antlers on Tuesday. Tivy was 7-5 after Tuesday but beat the Chargers in the first round so Tuesday’s match between the Hill Country rivals could decide third and fourth place.
Champion has made the playoffs every year since the school opened except for last season but they’re back this year and head coach Jessica Tully- Mitchell said their main goal as a team this season was starting a new playoff streak.
In Tuesday’s match, Izzy Maszak dropped in 4 aces, Kelsey Rogers had 3 aces and 13 kills, Erin Fallon added 2 kills and Raylynn Pitts had 1 ace, 12 kills and 1 block.
Emmy Koke finished with 5 blocks, while Rogers, Ella Coleman and Skye Conroy all came up with 2 blocks.
Ashleigh Williams chipped in with 1 block and Coleman tallied 7 kills.
Fallon finished with 11 assists and 12 digs, Maszak had 18 assists and 13 digs, Gabbie Rossello added 4 assists and 10 digs, Rogers tallied 2 assists and 4 digs, Sadie Hoyt came up with 9 digs and Pitts recorded 6 digs and Coleman had 4 digs.
