A motorist inside a northbound Ford pickup truck sideswiped two vehicles Friday afternoon on South Main Street before flipping the vehicle onto its driver’s side in front of 259 Brantley Bistro.

Two fire trucks, a handful of police vehicles, an ambulance and a couple of tow trucks lined Main Street at the accident scene, directing traffic around the site and checking on the driver of the flipped truck.

The driver didn’t appear to have any life-threatening injuries as he was speaking with officers and waiting on the sidewalk to be treated by first responders shortly after the incident took place.

The accident was cleared by about 3 p.m., roughly 40 minutes after it took place. Authorities at the scene did not know what may have caused the incident.

A driver behind the flipped pickup, Jake Monroe, witnessed the incident from a “few links” behind. Monroe said the pickup truck clipped the back driver’s side cor ner of a parked Ford F250 pickup and flipped, sliding about 10 feet after landing on its driver’s side door.

The two were driving along South Main Street, Monroe said, and no turns on or off the main road were involved in the accident.

Before the F250 was hit, a driver of a small white SUV said the Ford pickup also had hit the side of her vehicle.

Monroe said he pulled up next to the overturned vehicle and put his vehicle flashers on, but a nearby individual already had climbed up onto the vehicle to pull the driver out through the passenger side door. Monroe, who said he is trained in first aid as a merchant mariner, said the driver of the vehicle appeared shaken up more than anything.

While the cause of the accident is still unclear, Monroe said the incident didn’t appear to be caused by ice, saying he didn’t see the driver swerve or correct. He also said it didn’t appear the pickup was speeding.

However, Monroe said he wasn’t sure if the driver of the parked F250 backed up and clipped the overturned vehicle or not.

The incident remains under investigation.

A field sobriety test was conducted, and while the results of the test are not known at this time, it did not result in a blood draw warrant from Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Michele Van Stavern, reports stated.
