After a week off, the Comfort football team resumes district play Friday when they host Karnes City.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., in Comfort and the Bobcats need a win to help their cause.

Comfort is winless at 0-6 and is 0-2 in District 15-3A DII, while the Badgers are 3-4 overall and 1-2 in district with a league win over West Campus (56-0) and losses to Nixon-Smiley (20-13) and Natalia (24-19).

Comfort has also lost to Nixon-Smiley (40-34) and Natalia (42-27) and was off last week.

Bobcats head coach Brandon Easterly said the bye came at a good time for them and they were able to rest up and hope to get some players back soon.

“We prepared for Karnes City and worked on getting healthy,” Easterly answered when asked how they spent their bye week. “We are hoping to get a few guys back, but we have to see how practice goes and if they get back to full speed.”

Karnes City will mostly run but will pass on occasion to keep the defense honest. They have 1,487 rushing yards and 522 passing yards on the year, while Comfort will take the same approach – they prefer to run but will pass once in a while.

Easterly said the Badgers team will be a tough test.

“They’re very fast and athletic on defense,” he said, “and they’re big on offense.”

In both their district losses, the Bobcats have held leads against Nixon-Smiley and Natalia but couldn’t hold them in the second half.

Comfort is trying to snap a 15-game losing streak. The Bobcats won their opener last year at Brackett but then lost the remaining nine games on their schedule and had a chance in the 2021 finale at Lulling but lost 28-21.

This year, they’ve dropped their first six games and again, had a few close calls but haven’t been able to finish.
