Eagles soar into bye week on high note

Geneva beat the Bears, 42- 7, and concludes non-district play with a 3-4 record. The Eagles are off next Friday and open TAPPS district play on Oct. 21, at home against Corpus Christi John Paul II.

Geneva took control early in Thursday’s contest in Austin and went up 28-0 in the first quarter.

Landon Grimes tallied all four touchdowns for the Eagles in that opening stanza and recorded TD runs of 48, 6, 1 and 11 yards for scores.

KP FitzGerald ran in one 2-point try and Walker Cone booted two extra points, while the Eagles failed on another 2-point attempt.

In the second quarter, George Viña added to the Geneva lead with a 24-yard run for the 35-0 advantage after the Cone PAT.

KP FitzGerald tallied the last score of the night for the Eagles later in the second quarter on a 1-yard run to make it 42-0.

From there, the Eagles retracted their talons and went into ball-control mode to get out of Austin and enjoy the bye week.

Nobody scored in the third quarter and then Brentwood Christian got on the board in the final period on an 82-yard run to make it 42-7, which is where it ended.

Grimes finished the night with 113 yards on 8 carries and 4 touchdowns, FitzGerald ran for 34 yards on 5 attempts and a score, while Viña rushed twice for 28 yards and a TD.

Jacob Rosenstiel only threw the ball 7 times and completed 5 attempts, while KP FitzGerald hauled in 2 passes and Grimes and Jon-Michael Raimondo both recorded single catches.

Defensively, Viña finished with 3 tackles, 5 assists, 1 sack and a tackle for a loss, Caeden Sandifer had 2 stops and a tackle for a loss and FitzGerald tallied 3 tackles, 1 assist and 1 tackle for a loss.
