The Champion cross country squads co-hosted the Boerne Independent School District Invitational XC meet last Saturday at Cibolo Creek Elementary.
The Chargers, Greyhounds and Geneva Eagles were all there, along with schools from the greater San Antonio area.
Up next is the district meet for Champion on Oct. 12, in Seguin at Starcke Park.
Varsity Girls
There were only four girls teams entered in the 5A-6A varsity race that measured 3.1 miles or 5K.
Champion won the event with 19 points, Alamo Heights (41) took second, Kerrville Tivy placed third (80), followed by Churchill (110).
Antonian’s Micaela Villarreal won the race with an 18:16, but they didn’t have a full team. So, with adjusted scoring, Champion’s Elizabeth Leachman, who finished second behind Villarreal, came in first in the team standings with a time of 19:10.
Grace Flores was one spot back in second with a 19:15, Josey Whitaker came in fourth at 19:35, Grace Mondini took fifth in 19:45, Kendall Fallon was seventh with a 19:58, Meghan Huerta recorded a 20:17 for 11th, Erin Shrader recorded a 20:43, Kamryn Neer ran a 20:52 and Erica Harris posted a time of 22:17.
Varsity Boys
The Champion boys finished third with 57 points in a tight race with Alamo Heights (52) and TMI – Episcopal (56). Antonian, Churchill and Health Careers rounded out the field.
Luis Tovar and Caleb Dehart were sixth and seventh with times of 16:32 and 16:39, Ben Matamoros was 11th at 16:51, Noah Perez placed 16th in 17:15, Matthew Duran was a spot back in 17th with a 17:18, Charlie Houck clocked in at 17:22 for 19th, Patrick Thornton turned in a 17:51 for 30th, Evan Simmons ran a 17:59 for 32nd and Noah Shelby was a spot back with an 18:01 for 33rd.
