It was a good week for both the Boerne High and Boerne Champion team tennis programs.
Both the Chargers and Greyhounds closed out the regular season by winning their respective district titles and both did it with perfect records.
The postseason begins for both next week and the Chargers will face Leander Tuesday morning in the first round at Dripping Springs, 9 a.m., while the Greyhounds square off with Floresville on Tuesday at Northside Anne Marie, 12 p.m.
Boerne Champion
Champion hosted Pieper on Tuesday at the Charger courts to wrap up the regular season and district play.
Champion won Tuesday’s match over Pieper, 10-0, to sew up this year’s district title.
Champion improved to 12-5 overall and 7-0 in district.
It’s the eighth district title for the Chargers program under coach Joey Cantu and the first since 2019. They were also tri-champs one year.
Boerne High
The Greyhounds faced their two biggest rivals in its last two matches to close out the regular season.
BHS squared off with Fredericksburg last Saturday and then faced Wimberley Wednesday and both matches were in Boerne.
While the Battlin’ Billies and Texans played the Hounds tough, it wasn’t tough enough after Boerne beat the Billies, 10-2, and then they whipped Wimberley, 10-3.
Boerne was only up 4-3 after doubles against the Texans but then won four boys singles matches to bump the lead to 8-3 and then the top two BHS girls closed it out with wins to give Tyson Stewart a district title in his first year coaching the Greyhounds.
BHS ends the regular season at 12-2 overall and 5-0 in district.
