The Geneva School of Boerne has one more football game on its schedule before the bye week and the start of district play.
Geneva visits Brentwood Christian on Thursday, a game that was moved up a day from Friday.
Kickoff is set for Thursday in Austin at 7 p.m.
After Thursday’s contest, the Eagles are looking forward to some down time. They’ve had a few injuries through a demanding non-district schedule and still have one more to play.
Geneva coach Julius Scott, whose team is 2-4 overall, said the Eagles were down a few players when they hosted Central Catholic last week.
“Before the game, we were down to 16 players and then 15 because one got hurt,” he said. “There were some extra guys suited up but those were JV guys.”
Despite being shorthanded, Geneva played well against the Buttons and last Friday’s contest was tied at 7-7 in the second quarter.
Central Catholic scored late in the first half and went up 14-7 and then put the game away with a 29-yard pass for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to seal the 20-7 win.
“I can give you a lot of positives, we were slugging it out with a pretty good team,” Scott said.
The Eagles have played some stout squads in non-district, including a Central Catholic team that featured SMU commit Braden Flowers.
“There will be some time down the road, when I think this will pay off. I think it’s coming, and I think you might see a difference,” he said. “Games like this will have served its purpose, hopefully we’ll apply the lessons we’ve learned.”
Despite only scoring seven points last week, the Eagles tallied 212 yards from scrimmage with 119 on the ground and 93 passing.
Geneva QB Jacob Rosenstiel accounted for most of those 212 yards after he threw for 98 yards and ran for 99 yards on 27 carries. Rosenstiel also scored the team’s only touchdown of the game in the second quarter.
Landon Grimes and Hayden Allen both totaled 27 receiving yards, Luke Kaiser had 20 yards and KP FitzGerald 14 yards and George Viña added 5 receiving yards.
Grimes was also busy on defense and recorded 8 solo tackles and assisted on 3 others. Kaiser recorded 6 tackles and assisted on 3 others, FitzGerald tallied 5 solo tackles and 5 assists, Logan Fritcher recorded all 3 of Geneva’s sacks in the game and assisted on 7 other stops, while Kaiser and Allen both intercepted passes to stop Central Catholic drives.
