Empty Bowls, a grassroots movement to help end hunger, began in 1990 and is personalized within each community by local artists.

Empty Bowls Hill Country is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, at Kronkosky Place, 17 Old San Antonio Road in Boerne. Information states 100 percent of ticket sales will be donated to Meals on Wheels for the local fight against hunger.

There will be no presale tickets for bowls as all $25 tickets will be sold at the door beginning at 10:30 a.m. on the day of the event. One ticket equals one bowl and one cup of soup. Bowl selection is done in the order of the ticket sales

Local artists will have 300 individually crafted bowls available for purchase. Artists creating works of art in pottery and wood and donating them this year are Sherri Jo Adams, Rob Grimes, Laurie Dellis, Martha Sherman, Doug Oian, Stacia Miller, Brian Burckhardt, Marilyn Good, Ali Wiesse, Michele Geister, Barb Francis, Al Hoeksema, Pat Scrivano, Glenda Bumpus, April Grunspan, Chris Buckingham and studio potters.

Restaurants creating the various soups to be served in the bowls are La Cascada Table & Bar at Tapatio, 259 Brantley’s Bistro, Hungry Horse Restaurant and Catering, Peggy’s on the Green, Bumdoodlers Lunch Company, The Dienger Trading Co, Las Guitarras Cocina Mexicana, Richter’s Tavern, Cypress Grille and Kronkosky Place. A simple serving of soup and bread brings hunger awareness, organizers said.

Information states each year there are several choices of soup, but it cannot be guaranteed they are gluten free, dairy free or vegetarian.
