Comfort football team enters bye week

The Comfort football team is off this week and won’t play again until the Bobcats host Karnes City on Oct. 14 when they continue district play.

Comfort is 0-2 in District 15-3A DII and 0-6 overall. The Cats have four games left, including contests against Karnes City, Dilley, Poth and West Campus.

In its two district losses, Comfort has held leads against Nixon-Smiley and Natalia but couldn’t maintain them.

Against Natalia, Comfort was up 14-0 and 20-6 and when the Cats played Nixon-Smiley, they were leading 14-8 and 21-16.

Mason West had a memorable game last Friday against Natalia and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns. West had kickoff returns of 89 and 73 yards for scores and he also scored a rushing touchdown to account for three of their four TDs.

On the last West kickoff return, Comfort was leading 27-26 with 3:09 left in the third quarter but they wouldn’t score the rest of the way, while Natalia outscored Comfort 14-0 down the stretch and 36-7 in the game after the Cats went up 20-6.

Comfort quarterback Micah Nye had a good night running the ball and tallied 133 ground yards on 14 carries and accounted for the team’s other touchdown in the game.

Nye completed six of his passes, while Sam Tucker made five catches for 21 yards and Topper Sterling rushed for 53 yards on 14 carries.
