The Kendall County Historical Commission is an agency of our county government which operates under the guidelines of the Texas Historical Commission. The commission is charged to identify, protect, preserve and record those elements of our local history which reflect the lives, commerce, architecture and important events of our county. We also have a lot of fun doing it!

A few of the activities we worked on in the past few years include celebrating the 160th anniversary of the Boerne Village Band, adding to the official Texas Historical Marker roster, touring ranching properties and local historical buildings and showcasing local history through research articles and events. For many years, the Kendall County Historical Commission has won the distinguished service award from the state and has accomplished this through active engagement and service to our historical past!

Open to any adult resident of Kendall County 18 years of age or older, appointment is made by the Kendall County Commissioners Court and is a term of two years beginning in January of odd-numbered years. Prospective appointees must express a sincere interest in the preservation of county history and must be willing to comply with attendance requirements at regularly scheduled meetings.

Activities and events associated with the Kendall County Historical Commission involve a variety of skills. Members have taken on tasks such as writing articles, planning programs with outside speakers, making historical presentations, taking meeting notes, working on event promotion pre- and post-event, researching historical documents and materials, assisting at events (taking photos, set up, traffic control, etc.), organizing files, digitization of records, monitoring cemetery grounds and historical markers, serving as liaison with county commissioners and the state historical commission, social media management, website master, historical assets inventory, community advocacy and more!

If interested, contact commission Chair Robin Stauber at [email protected] or call 830-249-3053. The application is due Oct. 31, and appointments will be announced no later than Feb. 1.
