Chargers place in top 5 in Round Rock

Boerne Champion sent its cross-country teams to Round Rock to compete at the HOKA McNeil Invite on Day 2 of the event held last Saturday in Round Rock.

The Lady Chargers ran in the gold race and the boys competed in the silver race and both finished in the top five.

Both the Charger teams will co-host and race this weekend at the Boerne ISD Meet at Cibolo Creek Elementary.

 

Varsity Girls

Champion tallied 134 points in the Girls Gold race to finish fifth. Lucas Lovejoy won the event with 36 points, Kingwood took second (79), Highland Park was third (101), followed by Northwest Eaton (128) in the field of 11 full teams.

Freshman Elizabeth Leachman paced the Lady Chargers after she was eighth with a time of 17:45, Josey Whitaker came in 22nd with an 18:21, Grace Flores was one spot back in 23rd after clocking in at 18:22, Kendall Fallon placed 37th in a time of 19:02, Meghan Huerta finished the race in 44th place with a time of 19:11, Grace Mondini came in 49th in 19:27, Kynley Albright was 55th in 19:46 and Jenna Koepke rounded out the team with a time of 20:00 for 90th in the field of 105 racers.

 

Varsity Boys

The Boerne Champion boys ran in the Silver race where they finished in fourth with a score of 191. Austin High won the race with 84 points, Clear Lake came in second (131) and New Braunfels Canyon took third (159).

Three sophomores took the top three spots for the Chargers after Charlie Houck clocked in at 16:10 for 18th, Caleb Dehart was 25th in 16:24 and Luis Tovar recorded a 16:31 for 35th.

Ben Matamoros ran a 16:34 for 39th, Patrick Thornton finished in 17:10 for 74th, Noah Perez completed the race in a time of 17:15 for 80th, Evan Simmons came in 85th with a 17:20 and Noah Shelby rounded out the team after he ran a 17:56 for 143rdin the field of 154 racers.
