Geneva School of Boerne’s win over Shiner St. Paul Catholic last Friday was its first since opening weekend and snapped a three-game skid.

The 2-3 Eagles hope to build on last Friday’s victory and add to the win streak when they host Central Catholic Friday in Boerne.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Geneva Field.

The Buttons are 2-1 with shutout wins over Memorial (48-0) and Floresville (27-0) and a loss to Austin Regents (3520). One of their games was called because of the weather.

Both Geneva and Central Catholic have played Austin Regents, but Central Catholic played them closer, losing by 15 points, while the Eagles fell to the Austin School, 47-0.

Eagles coach Julius Scott said it’s hard to compare mutual opponents, for a lot of different reasons, but added that he’s more focused on his team.

“I’m only concerned with our play,” he said. “It’ll be a great opportunity for us to see how far we have come.”

Central Catholic is led by SMU commit Braden Flowers who plays tight end and defensive end. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Flowers had offers from Houston, Washington State, Iowa State and UTSA.

Braden’s father played in the NFL, while one of his brothers has played in the NFL and his other brother is currently on the Cincinnati Bengals roster.

Scott said the whole Buttons team is good.

“Just like the past five opponents, they are very well coached and have exceptional players,” he said.

In Geneva’s 35-12 win over Shiner St. Paul, the Eagles chalked up a season- high 35 points and Scott said one of the reasons is they cut down on penalties.

In their game against Blanco the previous week, the Eagles were flagged 14 times for 96 yards and in last week’s game they were only penalized four times.

“I thought we played more consistent, had less penalties and less blown assignments,” he said. “I know I always say it, but we continue to play hard and that is so important.”

Geneva went up 14-0 in the first quarter against St. Paul and after a scoreless second quarter, the Eagles outscored the Cardinals in the third period, 14-6, to open up a 28-6 lead.

Geneva scored first in the final period and pulled ahead 35-6 before the Cardinals had the final score of the game.

Jacob Rosenstiel threw a TD pass, George Viña scored, while KP FitzGerald ran for 114 yards on 13 carries and scored, Landon Grimes rushed for 65 yards on 12 carries and scored, while Hayden Allen caught 2 passes for 56 yards and a TD.

Defensively, FitzGerald and Henry Jons both recorded interceptions, Luke Kaiser tallied 6 tackles and assisted on 3 others, while Viña and Caeden Sandifer both had 4 tackles apiece.

Also in last week’s game, Walker Cone booted a 53-yard punt.
