Our friends at COSAS Gallery are excited to share with us that Patricia Castillo and Paul Jolet have joined their family of artisans. They are expected to be at the gallery most Fridays and Saturdays and will be participating in classes and demonstrations.

Castillo and Jolet have been fine folk artists for more than 20 years. Through their narrative representations of life and history, joined with folk art culture, they celebrate community. They provide a voice to remember ancestors, traditions, colors and expressions, reflecting the challenges and triumphs of today.

A fifth-generation folk artist from Puebla, Mexico, Castillo continues to create traditional sculptures, such as the “Tree of Life” candelabras, in the manner of her ancestors. She met Jolet and married him shortly after he began his apprenticeship with the family in the late 1990s.

Jolet’s talent in sculpting clay sculptures was discovered by the Castillo family, and was taught and his talent nurtured by several of its members. Their artwork is a collaboration between the two of them –both in the design and in the colors chosen to paint.

They have been featured by both the Texas Hill Country Reporter and San Antonio magazine. Castillo and Jolet also hosted a Zoom presentation, through the Bulverde Are Library, regarding the “Art and Culture of Dia de Muertos.” They have created community Trees of Life in New Mexico and South Texas Museum of Art in Corpus Christi.

Plan a visit soon to COSAS Gallery and be transported to the finest regional folk art cultures of Mexico. COSAS is open Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 39360 Interstate 10 West frontage road in Boerne. Call 830-249-1500 for more information or inquire at cosas @cosasonline.com.
