Don Harvey

Don Harvey

December 8, 1938 – February 1, 2022

Don Harvey transferred his license to the real estate office in the sky on February 1, 2022. He was born on December 8, 1938, in Victoria, Texas,. He graduated from Midland High School. After serving in the Army, he began his real estate career when Midland and led the nation in repossessions.

As the owner of Don Harvey Realtors, in the 1970s, he was on the cusp of the relocation industry, assisting most of the oil-related business transferees who moved in and out of Midland, until he sold the residential division in the mid 90s and joined son Dode Harvey, president of the commercial division in San Antonio.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Harvey. He is survived by a legacy of Realtors, daughter Kim Young; son Dode Harvey and wife Molly; grandchildren Emily Young, Hilary Harvey, Cutty Young, Donald and Madelyn Harvey, Maggie and Nathan Rhoden and Tessa Young; and three great grandchildren.

Harvey never met a stranger or was slow to start a conversation. He was quick to tell you he grew up in No Trees, Texas, and graduated from the College of Hard Knocks. He met Elvis at the local music store, loved country music and was a proud American who believed in freedom and the founding principles.

He became a believer in his 20s. He sat in church on Sundays without judgment, among the saints and the sinners. He took care of his family and loved his grandchildren fiercely, going so far as babysitting with grandmother all six kids every Saturday night, getting them up and ready for Sunday school and church the next morning. The pew didn’t have the Harvey name on it, even though it took a whole one for the family, but the restaurants frequented after church always had a large table ready. There surely is a crown in heaven for Papa.

Don Harvey was well known in the real estate world, playing an active role in his local and state associations. He served 8 years on the Texas Real Estate Commission and served as TREC Chairman in the ‘80s. He was a vocal advocate of private property rights and was among the early supporters of the Texas Real Estate Political Action Committee.

Donations to TREPAC at your local Realtor Association will continue the cause he spent his life supporting.
