Boerne residents won’t have to drive into San Antonio to get their Bakery Lorraine fix anymore – the BL team will be opening their fifth location here in October, and they are adding something new to the mix.
Chefs Anne Ng and Jeremy Mandrell met while baking at Thomas Keller’s world-famous Bouchon Bakery in Napa Valley. They moved to San Antonio from San Francisco more than a decade ago, fresh from stints at the French Laundry and fully intending to hang up their aprons and work at Rackspace.
But soon they started bringing their delicious baked goods to work – and Bakery Lorraine was born. The accolades poured in from the beginning.
Food & Wine named Bakery Lorraine one of the best new bakeries in the country, Conde Nast Traveler said it was one of the “13 Destination Bakeries” of the year and Southern Living prominently added BL to their 2022 list of the South’s Best Bakeries.
From its modest beginning as a staple at a weekly farmers market to the first tiny brick and mortar, the Bakery Lorraine story is not just about great reviews – it’s about how these two chefs love to share their joy and passion for food. And when restaurateur Charlie Biedenharn joined up, the trio realized it was time to spread the joy.
But with three busy locations in San Antonio and one in Austin, they weren’t even considering opening a new spot.
“This was not planned,” Ng said. “The three of us just looked at each other and we knew.”
“In fact, it never would have happened if it hadn’t been for the great new friends we made in Boerne,” Biedenharn added. “We are very excited to become part of the community.”
Mandrell agreed it was as if it was meant to be.
“Driving through Boerne one day, we came across this beautiful property, and it was perfect,” Mandrell explained. “We were just drawn in by Boerne’s charm.”
Indeed, the beautiful setting in Boerne at 134 Oak Park Drive demanded something more, a new turn for the BL team.
“We want to activate this pretty place as a night spot, a place where neighbors can gather,” Ng added. “We’ll serve wine and BL snacks – the concept is evolving, but we’ll learn from our patrons – a bakery is such a community- driven thing.”
Patrons can still expect the full Bakery Lorraine menu, which includes delicious coffee, breakfast, lunch, and of course, those delicious baked goods that started it all.
“Macarons are still our signature pastry. Every season we offer different flavors, but our guests can always count on enjoying our all time favorites all year long,” Ng shared.
