Boerne Books & Arts Festival features large lineup

In case you tuned in today expecting to read an article from Miss Constance, our children’s librarian… she has graciously given this spot to me so we can promote the Boerne Book & Arts Festival. And in the spirit of children’s literature, today I’ll talk about the great lineup we have for kids and families at this year’s book festival.

Dr. Carmen Tafolla is a poet, storyteller, performance artist, motivational speaker and university professor. She has served as both San Antonio Poet Laureate and Texas Poet Laureate. On Saturday, Oct. 1, she’ll be performing from some of her children’s books at the Boerne Book & Arts Festival. Stop by the entertainment stage at 12:15 p.m. at Main Plaza to meet the author. Some of her most recent children’s book titles are “I’ll Always Come Back to You,” and “What Can You Do with a Paleta?” We’ll be giving away paletas to the first 100 kids to show up to Carmen’s program. The author will be signing her fabulous children’s books after this program.

Chris Mullen from Richmond, Texas, is becoming well known for his western novels for the young adult audience. These books are packed with adventure, and Chris will be performing on the entertainment stage at the book festival at 1:45 p.m. There are three books in the “Rowdy” series by Chris Mullen. Chris will stick around after his performance to sign copies of his books.

Laurie Brown, also known as “The Book Fairy,” will be on hand all day to visit with kids and help them with activities in the Kids’ Activity and Author Tent. Laurie is a member of the Southwest Chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators. We’ll have several children’s book authors in this tent, with many fun books for kids.

H-E-B has been a sponsor of the Boerne Book & Arts Festival each year, and this year, they’ve given us some great H-E-Buddy bookmarks to give away. They come with their own markers. Kids can color them at the book festival or take them home to color! We’ll have the bookmarks available to pick up in the Kids’ Activity and Author Tent, while supplies last.

Please join us at the Boerne Book & Arts Festival at Main Plaza Oct. 1. There is a full schedule on our website: www. boernebookfest.com – printed schedules can also be picked up inside the library.
