Letter: Local pleads with sportsgoers to respect rules

Local pleads with sports- goers to respect rules

To all Athletic Fans of BISD Sports.

I have had the privilege to assist the Athletic Department as a substitute at games. I know I should not be surprised at the behavior of our fans, but I must admit after working two football games, I am a little shocked.

I would like to remind all fans that those individuals who work the gate and the concessions are employees of BISD ( Boerne Independent School District). They are teachers, secretaries, aides, custodians, cafeteria and paraprofessionals. They work the games to earn a little extra money for their families.

They deserve RESPECT.

Four of the BISD policies are: No outside food and beverage, no re-entry as you must purchase another ticket to enter, no tobacco products of any kind on BISD property and no alcohol.

Why do I bring these up? They seem to cause the most issues at games.

I decided to do a little research to see if BISD policies were out of line with professional venues. I found that BISD is more lenient than most professional venues. Yet parents feel “entitled” to bring in their outside food or beverage. They feel “entitled” to dip and spit in their empty water bottle. They feel “entitled” to vape.

Please remember that we are doing our job, following the guidelines set forth by our district, and that includes all 4A and 5A districts we play. Each district has agreed on these guidelines.

Next time you are advised no food or beverage be brought into the venue, please dispose of items respectfully and do not throw them at the ticket scanner. Please understand that if you want to leave the venue, you will need to purchase another ticket to re-enter. And most of all, please leave all tobacco products in your vehicle along with the alcohol.

Certified service animals for guest with disabilities are welcome. Please make sure you have all the proper documentation prior to arrival. Pets are not allowed on BISD property. Thank you, and I look forward to more “ winning” games this 2022/2023 year.

Go Greyhounds, Go Chargers.
