Deer outlast Sonora in five-set marathon

The Comfort Deer hosted the Sonora Lady Broncos in a Saturday afternoon matinee after Poteet bailed on them Friday night.

It was a clash of two evenly matched teams that ended in an epic five set slobber-knocker. In the end, it was the multi-faceted Deer who slipped on by with a three sets to two victory.

Four of the five games went into extra points after Comfort won 29-27, 24-26, 25-19, 24-26, 16-14. With the win the Deer improved to 17-8. Comfort starts District 5-3A play Tuesday as they travel to Llano.

In Saturday’s match, Meghan Davis, who already tied the school record for kills in a match earlier this season had an incredible 20 kill/30 dig double-double.

Jackie Zapata tallied a career-high 31 digs and Zapata also had six service aces. The only set that didn't require multiple set points was the third set the Deer managed to win 25-19.
