Chris Taylor, a lifelong conservative Republican and Boerne High School graduate with a long family history in Kendall County, has announced his candidacy for Kendall County judge.
Taylor said his educational background, community engagement and work experience make him well-suited for the position. He is a graduate of St. Mary’s University with a bachelor of arts degree in organizational administration, a graduate of LeTourneau University with an MBA and a graduate of the University of Portsmouth with a PGD in strategic management.
Taylor said he desires to create a more efficient county government by developing a long-range development plan, updating technology and building collaboration between local governmental entities for the purpose of leveraging buying power and best practices. He said he also wants to increase citizen engagement by enticing and rewarding citizen participation in county government.
Taylor also said he believes it is important to promote desired economic development for future generations while protecting natural resources. Through the process of creating greater efficiencies and promoting economic development, Taylor said he believes he can prevent future tax rate increases.
Taylor has served under the last three Boerne mayors. His community experience includes his current role as chairman of the Design Review Committee for the city of Boerne and his past service as a commissioner on the Zoning Board of Adjustments and a commissioner on the Historic Landmark Commission. He has also served as a volunteer EMT and treasurer for Kendall County EMS Association. Additionally, Taylor is a certified firefighter and trained in swift water rescue. He is currently a member of the Boerne Rotary Club and Kendall County Republican Club.
Taylor retired from Hewlett-Packard, one of the world’s largest computer companies with 330,000 employees, as a legal, engineering and operations manager. In his role, Taylor said he helped HP save more than $42 million without cutting any local jobs. He said he also reduced hardware and software expenses by $6.6 million per year and reduced packaging expenses by $1.8 million per year.
Taylor is also trained in fraud detection and investigation and has worked as a global procurement manager.
His other accomplishments include a U.S. patent for a computer system with an external air mover, an Inventor Award from HP, an Environmental Advisory Council Award for the development of a recycling program and numerous other awards and certifications, including Microsoft Windows certification.
Taylor is married to Holly, his wife of 33 years, whom he met at Boerne Elementary School in fourth grade. They have three daughters and recently had their first granddaughter, who Taylor said is the eighth generation descendant of the first settlers of Kendall County.
Holly’s great grandfather was former Kendall County Sheriff Sidney Edge, who died in the line of duty in 1948.
