It is that time again, and the Hill Country Council for the Arts is excited to host its fifth annual Boerne BierFest next weekend, Saturday, September 18, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Agricultural Museum and Arts Center, 120 City Park Road in Boerne. Buy your ticket now for a $5 discount at www.boernebierfest.org.
What has become Boerne’s most charming festival, Boerne BierFest celebrates microbrews from around the region. You will find about 90 brews available to sample in a souvenir sampling stein.
Festival organizers take the art of beer seriously, and rather than getting tanked, we encourage you to enjoy the t-a-s-t-e. Boerne BierFest is an excellent opportunity to hang out with locals and learn about the area’s beer culture. Almost two 200 volunteers will serve this year as pourers to ensure your enjoyment. A special thanks to “Group” volunteers from ISEC!
Reasons to participate in this year’s Boerne Bier-Fest include walking the midway, framed by Main Stage, Keg Toss and Masskrugstemmen, and sampling the craft beer while viewing the arts and crafts of local artisans.
From the participating artists, the best of the best is given the opportunity to create next year’s art poster. Purchase your limited edition posters at the HCCArts booth. Additionally, you can hear the personal inspirations of all artists featured. And let’s not forget the art of tasty, juicy, finger-licking food to accompany that special craft beer!
There also will be live music. At Boerne BierFest we encourage you to dance, barefoot if you like, and sing out loud.
The Boerne Village Band will welcome you at the festival opening with traditional German music to get you into an Oktoberfest mood. River Mountain Rockers is back for an encore appearance to get your vocal chords warmed up and dancing feet going with songs from Motley Crue, Led Zeppelin, Duran Duran ... you get the idea. And sixth generation Texan Brooke Graham will provide us “the views and attitude of a Southern, homegrown woman.” Brooke began picking with dad at 6 years of age, and she learned to love literature and writing from mom, who was a high school English teacher.
Come and witness a small community coming together celebrating, enjoying food and drink, laughing, conversing, dancing ... all of us together.
Artist of the Month
Boerne Art League names Lleanna Griffin Brinsmade its Artist of the Month for September.
“Opening Night” is a colorful series of original pastel paintings created by Brinsmade, a pastel portraiture artist, to honor musicians and the music they bring us. The series was inspired by characters and music experienced on opening night at a very special venue several years back.
Painting is a recently discovered joy for Brinsmade. A native Texan, she is a Trinity University alumna and retired project management professional. Her arts education began in 2014 when her elderly mother (who suffered from degenerating vision) passed her a pastel stick in a neighborhood art class. Brinsmade quickly found herself drawn to pastel portraits, aiming to capture her subjects’ likenesses while letting their inner joy shine through. She said she is deeply grateful for this new gift and where it leads her.
Boerne Bank locations where Brinsmade’s artworks can be viewed during the month of September are Frost Bank, 1300 S. Main St.; Bank of America, 115 W. San Antonio St.; Security State Bank, 607 N. Main St.; Jefferson Bank, 371 N. Main St.; and Kronkosky Center, 17 Old San Antonio Road, through September 30.
