Boerne High had its best offensive showing of the year Friday night after the Greyhounds tallied a 52-27 victory over Gregory-Portland.

BHS remains perfect this year and improves to 4-0. The Hounds return to Boerne on Friday to host Salado for homecoming.

The Wildcats scored first in Friday’s game near Corpus Christi, but the Greyhounds answered and never let up.

After GP went up 7-0, the Hounds tied it on a Jaxon Baize touchdown pass to TJ Dement, and it was 7-0 late in the first quarter.

Early in the second, it was the Baize-to-Baize connection after Jaxon hit Braden on a 25-yard TD pass to give the Greyhounds a 14-7 lead after the PAT.

Houston Hendrix gave Boerne great field position after he blocked a Wildcats punt, and the Hounds made them pay. Jaxon Baize found Dement for the second time on Friday with a 35-yard scoring strike and it was 21-7 with 8:36 remaining in the half.

Adam Hicks added to the BHS lead with a 3-yard touchdown run, and the Hounds took a 28-7 advantage into halftime.

Joe Ballenger extended the Boerne lead in the third quarter with a 27-yard field goal, and the Hounds pulled ahead 31-7.

Gregory-Portland had its first score since early in the game when the Wildcats found the end zone on a short run, and it was 31-14 in the third quarter, but Boerne responded.

Bodie Brown scrambled his way to paydirt with a 60-yard run and the Boerne lead was 38-14 with 2:58 left in the third.

The Tigers hit a long pass for a 75-yard scoring strike and went for two and didn’t convert, leaving Boerne’s lead at 38-20.

Jaxon Baize gave the Hounds some breathing room after he connected with Brooks Perez on a 45-yard touchdown pass and BHS was up 45-20 early in the fourth.

Gregory-Portland wouldn’t go away, scoring once more on a long pass to trim the lead to 45-27 with 6:40 left in the game, but that’s as close as they would get.

Boerne answered and Hicks tacked on his second rushing touchdown of the night to secure the 52-27 win over the Wildcats.
