Members of the Boerne High cross-country team raced at the NEISD Meet last weekend.
The team was originally scheduled to run at the Southwest ISD meet but due to bad weather and a muddy field the meet was canceled.
BHS coach Chris Carter said the NEISD course wasn’t much nicer.
“It was a tough meet, muddy and consisted of 5A and 6A schools,” he said. “It was not a meet to get PR’s, shoes were heavy, the course was challenging, but our kids responded well and performed great.”
The varsity teams will next compete at the Hoka McNeil Invitational in Round Rock, the site of the UIL state meet, while the JV will run at the NE sports park.
Varsity Boys
The BHS boys placed 10th overall with 231 points in a field of 16 teams.
Boerne was led by junior Caleb Benchoff who came in 27th with a time of 17:54, Tayson Farar was close behind and came in 29thin 17:57, Cole Palmer ran an 18:32 for 58th, Chase Balderas completed the 5K course in 18:46 for 51st, Ben Macias clocked in at 19:30 for 76th and Parker Powell recorded a 19:32 for 78th in a field of 123 runners.
Varsity Girls
The Boerne High girls usually compete in a two-mile race but ran a 5K or 3.1 miles last Saturday.
Some of the Lady Hounds have been out but Carter kept the girls in the varsity division and ran them as individuals in the longer race where the team only had four entries.
BHS freshman Mahaley Merkens turned in the team’s best time after recording 22:18 for 33rd, Sophia Karageorge posted a 23:35 for 66th, Mary Marino was two spots back in 68th after clocking in at 23:37 and Sophia King placed 79th with a time of 24:15 in the field of 100 runners.
In JV races, the Boerne boys were fifth out of 21 teams and the JV Lady Hounds were second in the field of 23 squads.
