Tracy Darr-Van Reet

Tracy Darr-Van Reet

Tracy Darr-Van Reet passed away at her home outside of Boerne, Texas, on September 4, 2022, at the young age of 62 years. She is survived by husband Edward (Ed) Van Reet; daughter Vanessa Van Reet; and her fiancé, Tyler Burill; son Eric Van Reet and his, wife, Tyler; and daughter, Lottie.

She is remembered for her loving spirit and her tenacity to make the most of her life. Tracy fought a valiant fight against the ravages of Scleroderma, the disease she lived with for over 20 years. It slowed her down and sentenced her to life in a wheelchair, but she rarely complained, and she tried very hard not to let her disabilities become a burden to others.

Tracy was an only child, so she loved being with her family and friends and being part of groups and organizations. After moving to Boerne, she quickly joined the local garden club, sewing group and nature club. As her health declined, so did her active participation, but her interest never waned.

Prior to her retirement to Boerne, she was a lifelong supporter of the Girl Scouts organization and volunteer tutor for adult literacy. A voracious reader, Tracy loved a mystery. It was a rare evening that she did not have a book in her hand. When her dexterity declined, she replaced paper books with digital and finally audible formats. In the last few years alone, she completed reading over 21 novels.

Tracy was a woman on the move. She spent her childhood with her parents, Ron and Mary Lou Darr, traveling as part of a career Air Force family. Born in Biloxi, Mississippi, she grew up on military bases, much of the time in Europe. She remained passionate about travel and took every opportunity to talk about her adventures in the U.S., Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, South America, England, Scotland and others. Her husband would tease her that there was no need to visit Europe because she has already been there and done that.

After her father returned from Vietnam, his final station was at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was here Tracy finished high school and then moved to Socorro, New Mexico, to attend New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, earning a degree in petroleum engineering.

With certificate in hand, she accepted a job with Gulf (now Chevron) Oil Corporation, working in the Permian Basin region as a petroleum engineer and facility design engineer. It was in Odessa, Texas, that she met and married her one and only husband of 36 years. Not til in death did they part.

There is so much more that can be said, but in the end, what she did was make our world so much brighter. Remember her as that nice lady driving about in her power wheelchair with I-pad, I-phone and diet Coke on board. We will love and miss her always.

Please join us in celebrating her life on Monday, September 19, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home, 1265 N. Main St., Boerne, Texas.
