Dennis Oliver Freeman

Dennis Oliver Freeman

September 23, 1940 – September 1, 2022

Dennis Oliver Freeman passed away on September 1, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas.  A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 3 to 6 pm at 110 Sparrow Hawk Trail, Boerne, Texas.

Dennis was born in Rugby, North Dakota, on September 23, 1940, to Helen Freeman and Carton Freeman. He is survived by his wife, Linda Freeman; his sister, Sandra Freeman; his son, Chad Freeman; his daughter, Jennifer Stephens; his son, Ryan Freeman; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts and uncles; his daughter, Celene Freeman; his brother, Conrad Freeman; and his grandchild, Alex McFarland (Kelly Freeman).
Dennis was an avid huntsman, fisherman and conservationist who deeply loved and respected nature. He migrated with his family from North Dakota to Minnesota, and in 1974 made Texas his lasting home.

In his younger years he led a rich, often humorous (usually after the fact), history of escapades, including hunting and fishing adventures. Several of those stories are recollected in an autobiography he wrote in his 60s. Prior to being an author, he developed subdivisions and properties in areas around Austin, Texas.

In the 1990s he founded, owned and operated a rod building and fly-fishing business, "Rodmakers," with his son, Chad.

If walls could talk, you could hear some of the magnificently outrageous fish tales told in the shop. He also tried his hand at being a bed and breakfast host in Rockport, Texas, which is where he met his wife, Linda. The rest, as is said, is history.
Expressions of sympathy, including memorial tributes and cards, may be sent to Chad Freeman, on behalf of Linda Freeman, at 15576 Aldama Circle, Port Charlotte, FL  33981.
