After a long drive to Eagle Pass last Friday, the Boerne Champion football team returns home and will make the short drive to Boerne ISD Stadium this Friday to face Canyon Lake.

It’ll be the final non-district contest of the year for the Chargers team that opens district play next week.

Champion and Canyon Lake kick off Friday at 7 p.m.

The Chargers are coming off a 35-27 setback at Eagle Pass and what makes the loss tough is that Champion was leading at one point, 27-14, but didn’t score in the second half, while giving up three unan-

7 swered touchdowns over the last two periods to suffer its first loss of the year.

Champion struggled to get its run game going and only rushed for 59 yards on 21 carries. Chargers QB Jordan Ballin led the team on the ground with 33 yards on 7 totes and one touchdown.

Champion aired it out quite a bit and threw 43 times. Ballin completed 28 of 42 attempts and Brock Browning was 1 for 1.

Ballin threw for three touchdowns and had two interceptions, while Kannon Brooks had a strong game receiving and finished with 5 catches for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Griffin Jones also put up impressive receiving numbers and hauled in 9 passes for 122 yards and a score.

Evan Bates caught four passes, Cameron Logan had a catch, while Kaleb Krause, Chase Riha and Colin Ryan all snagged 3 passes.

The Chargers defense came up with three turnovers after Evan Kuhl and Tony Graves both picked off passes and Jared Wingo came up with a fumble recovery.
