Boerne High closed out the first round of district girls basketball action Friday night by hosting Wimberley.
The Lady Hounds were coming off its only 28-4A loss at Fredericksburg and bounced back in a big way to beat the Lady Texans by 50 points.
Boerne picked up the 74-24 victory and ends the first round of district at 4-1. BHS is 24-4 overall and they are home Tuesday to host Bandera to kick off the second round.
Boerne took control early in Friday’s contest and was up 6-0 before Wimberley could get on the board. After the Texans made it 6-2, BHS closed out the quarter on a 16-0 run to bump the score to 22-2 when the second period started.
Averi Aaron dropped in the first two points of the second and it was 24-2 before Wimberley scored four straight to make it 24-6.
From there, the Lady Greyhounds closed it out with a 13-5 spurt after they outscored Wimberley in the second, 15-9, for the 37-11 halftime lead.
Once the third quarter started, Boerne matched the first quarter with 22 points and held Wimberley to 7 for the 59-18 advantage.
BHS closed it out by winning all four quarters and taking the final stanza, 15-6, for the 50-point win.
Averi Aaron finished with a double-double after she scored 27 points and collected 15 rebounds to go with 4 steals, while Jamie Ruede tallied 15 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.
Savannah Salinas hit a couple of 3s and score 9 points, Liz Fox had 5 points, Leila Johnson and Abby Smith both chipped in with 4, Karson Kurtz and Jenna Ruede netted 3 points each, Jordyn Lemm had 2 points and 3 assists, while Hannah Rocchio and Sushanna Cobb hit 1 free throw apiece and Rocchio added 3 steals.
