First families of Kendall County to be recognized

On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Genealogical Society of Kendall County will conduct a celebration of the founders and early settlers of Kendall County. It will be held at St. John Lutheran Church Family Life Center at 315 Rosewood Ave. in Boerne. Doors open at 10 a.m. and the celebration begins at 10:30 a.m. and lasts about an hour.

A light lunch and music will follow. The public is invited.

The purpose is to recognize the founders and early settlers of Kendall County and to preserve the history of their families and the county, information from the local genealogical society stated. Founders are those who settled, before the end of 1862, in the area encompassed by present-day Kendall County. Early settlers are those who arrived from then until the end of 1900.

“Honorees receive a certificate, and their applications along with documents, pictures and family histories are later assembled into books which are placed on shelves in the Family History Place at 114 E. Blanco in Boerne where they can be publicly accessed,” event Chairman Hal Harwell said “This growing, priceless collection consists of more than 245 three-ring binders of data which is found nowhere else.”

The 2022 honorees will include George Wilkins Kendall, for whom the county is named, and the following families from the Comfort, Boerne, Sisterdale and Bergheim areas: Below-Allerkamp, Boerner-Schultze, Bohnert-Schellhase, Burow-Schroeder, Flach-Kapp, Ranzau-Schumann, Rust-Bartels, Seidensticker-Saur, Schilling-Schmidt, Smith-Short, Theis-Kessler, Wiedenfeld-Saur and Zoeller-Wendler.

If you are a descendant of a founder or early settler, you can submit an application which can be found at www.gskctx.org.

The Genealogical Society of Kendall County is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Anyone interested in membership may visit www.gskctx.org or call 830-331-8730.
