Geneva girls split last two district soccer matches

The Geneva School of Boerne girls soccer team played two district matches last week and split the two. The Eagles defeated St. Mary’s Hall and lost to St. Michael’s in a shootout.

Geneva travels to Austin on Tuesday to challenge Brentwood Christian Academy.

Vs. St. Mary’s Hall

Geneva hit the road last Friday for its first match of the season against the ladies from St. Mary’s Hall.

The first half produced a lot of activity but no reward for the Lady Eagles, which had 8 shots on goal and nothing to show for it as the first half ended in a 0-0 tie.

However, the second half was a totally different with Geneva going on the attack early. Kaylie Stringfellow put the Eagles in front with a beautiful left-footed goal.

Eight minutes later Stringfellow converted off an Alex Doran assist to put the Eagles up 2-0. And then 20 minutes into the second half, Avery Myrick would blow through the back line to make it a 3-0 game.

The Lady Barons narrowed the gap with 1 goal but that was it and the Eagles picked up the 3-1 victory.

Stringfellow had 2 goals and Myrick had the other, while defensively, center back Sam Doran, midfielder Noelle Moerdyke and goalkeeper Mia Cahoon stood out for the team according to coach Marty Morris.

Vs. St. Michael’s

Last Tuesday the Eagles traveled to Austin for its first match of the season with St. Michael’s.

The Crusaders scored four minutes into the first half and took the 1-0 lead and held it until halftime.

The second half opened and Alex Doran leveled the score at 1-1.

From there, St. Michael’s went on a rage and added two more goals with less than 10 minutes left in regulation, but the Eagles responded in kind with a goal from right back Ellie LeDoux that hit the upper 90, and then two minutes later, they found the equalizing goal from Noelle Moerdyke off an assist from Isabella Gadoy and it was 3-3.

It went to penalty kicks and St. Michael’s edged out the Eagles for the 4-3 win.

Alex Doran, Ellie LeDoux and Kaylie Stringfellow all had 1 goal, while Noelle Moerdyke scored 2 goals for the Eagles.
