The Kendall County Fair is a long-standing and time-honored tradition in our county. It doesn't go off without a lot of dedication, work and the endless support we receive from the community.
You showed me what the Kendall County Fair means to you in 2021. I was in awe of how packed our grandstands were. You remind us every year that what we do here matters not only to us, but to the community. I'm honored to be leading this organization in a direction where we will continue to enhance our programs give back to those who support us.
I want to personally thank those who have supported us through the years. The countless volunteers, contestants, exhibitors, directors, patrons at our events and our sponsors. You are an essential part of this organization.
Roots grow deep for me here in Kendall County. The Boerners were a part of the founding of Kendall County back to 1856, when my third great-grandfather, Henry Boerner, settled in Comfort. Like me and my father, Clinton Boerner, who served on the Junior Livestock board, Henry and his son, Fred, were also very involved in the community celebrations and bringing people together.
That's what we do. We bring people together here at the fair. Families come back to town to see everyone, head to the rodeo, cut a groove on the dance floor and just enjoy the day at the fair. The directors have worked very hard this year to make some great improvements, and there are many more in the forecast. We've made improvements to the grandstands and replaced the bucking chute and pens in the rodeo arena, which were no easy tasks.
As a child, I was blessed to raise animals on our small family farm with my dad and mom, Clinton Boerner and Janie Asher Roll. This experience taught me how to work hard, respect others, love my family and how to be responsible for someone else's well-being.
Times have changed and not all children have this opportunity. I'm very excited about another big advancement we've made this year, which is dear to my heart. The Kendall County Fair Association is partnering with the Boerne schools to open the doors to kids who want to experience the life of a show kid, raising animals for stock show. Kids who are a part of the FFA program, but have nowhere to raise an animal, will be able to house their animal here with the supervision of the schools’ ag department.
As an adult, my wife and I raised our three children here where they have experienced the same enjoyments I did growing up. Watching not only my children, but those of friends and family experience the fair, rodeo and stock shows, has encouraged me to work as hard as we can to continue to bring the community these events and opportunities.
If you have never been to the fair, I would like to personally invite you to come out to the fair Labor Day weekend, Friday, September 2, through Sunday, September 4. There is something for everyone of all ages within an affordable family budget.
Activities include a queen's pageant, exhibition hall, livestock show, parade, KC's Kids program for special-needs kids, carnival, arts & crafts, rodeo, bull riding, daily and nightly Entertainment, apple pie and salsa contest, egg content contest, great food plus much more! Every dollar raised helps fund the maintenance of the facilities, future improvements, scholarship programs and community donations.
I hope to see you at this year's Kendall County Fair. We have a great event planned for you! Let's make some new friends and memories that can last a lifetime! See you there!
