The cross-country season is here and a couple of teams have already raced, while two more will begin the 2022 season this weekend.
Comfort raced at the Early Bird Invitational in Ingram on Aug. 13 and again last Friday in Kerrville, while Champion ran last weekend at a meet hosted by Pieper.
Boerne High and Geneva School of Boerne are in action this weekend. The Hounds are at Medina Valley and Geneva is at New Braunfels for their first races of the year.
Champion won’t race again until Sept. 3 when they are at the FEAST meet.

Pieper hosted a relay race last Saturday morning, a bit different than a standard race.
Four members teamed up to run 2,640 yards and the Chargers had several teams entered in each category.
On the varsity girls side, the Champion A and B teams went 1-2 with times of 37:12 and 37:35.
Josey Whitaker and Kynley Albright each ran 2 legs or 1.5 miles each to win it, while the 2nd-place relay consisted of Beth Leachman (1 leg), Jenna Koepke (1 leg) and Grace Flores (2 legs).
The Charger C team was 5th after posting a 39:43 and the D team was 11th in 41:21 in a field of 17 teams.
On the varsity boys side, the Champion D team placed 7th in 33:35, the A team was 10th in 34:13, the C team was one spot back in 11th in 34:13 and the B team finished 13th in 35:16.
Luis Tovar, Charlie Houck and Caleb DeHart, all sophomores, had the best individual performances on the boys side, according to head coach Jonathan Tate.

The young Bobcats were paced in Ingram by sophomore Hunter Lackey who came in 11th with a time of 19:25. Right behind him was freshman Jackson Dear who was 14th in 20:19, while freshman Jose Gaspar (21:37), sophomore Justin Govea (21:49) and sophomore Luke Reich (24:00) rounded out the Bobcat five.
The top Deer performer was senior Steffi Drymala who came in 8th with a time of 15:53. Freshman Jael Hernandez finished 12th with a time of 16:35, just ahead of her teammate and senior Bailey Feldman at 16:36, while senior Kacee Gunnink finished 21st with a time of 18:15.
