There are plenty of new places to visit in Comfort

The face of Comfort is often changing as new businesses discover the charm of this community and want to be a part of it.  So, we will give you a snapshot of several of the new kids on the block and invite you to come and take a look for yourself.

We will begin with Hens and Heifers, located at 625 High St.  Some of you may remember it as the previous location of Scott & Co. Hair Salon. Besides having excellent taste in vintage furnishings, owner Kimberly Brooks is also a fantastic baker.

You can peruse the wares and enjoy the sweets along with a cup of coffee or tea. Word has it that the carrot cake and brownies are to die for! And you can’t miss the place – just look for the golden balloons tied to the front gate.

Hens and Heifers is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Next on the list is Blue Heron Yoga, where classes in several types of yoga are available from Rosie Meier. Her place is located at 22A Highway 87, just behind Scott & Co. Hair Salon.

This extremely hot summer in Texas can make exercising difficult, especially outside. So, step inside to the air conditioning while you do your workout! You can also sign up for Boot Camp – intense cardio and weight training not meant for the faint of heart.

Rosie can be reached at 830-431-2656. Her current schedule includes classes Monday through Friday so give her a call.

We will keep the colorful animal theme going as we introduce you to The Peach Llama Designs in its new shop at 804 High St., Suite A.  The building has received a significant facelift and invites you to step inside.

Owner Emma Dietert’s artistic flair is sure to delight. She customizes and personalizes items for home use and gift-giving. Gorgeous cutting boards and charcuterie boards are available, made by Michael Shoup and personalized by Emma.

Her shop hours are Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. She can be reached at 214-709-7141.

And now for a change of pace, we have Fenton Stoneworks where cement and limestone blocks are manufactured. If you are in need of these materials, check it out.

Owner Eric Eggemeyer has located his business at No. 3 Ranch Road 1621, just outside Comfort. He can be reached at 325-374-1042, and his hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Next, we have the K4 Equestrian Center located at 7100 Highway 27. This new facility offers boarding, training, leases and sales. And if you have always wanted to learn to ride a horse, look no further. Riding lessons from beginner to advanced are available. The trainer is Sandra Kitchens, and she can be reached at 830-446-1016.

The facility is open every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, contact owner Avery Kohm at 830-285-4048.

And the very newest new business chamber member has perhaps the most creative name of all: The Wash Ice House. And there’s a reason for the name. It is located at 545 Lindner Ave. at what used to be a car wash. Hence “The Wash” and the current owner, Dionne Seal, is keeping the building and repurposing it to sell beer and wine, all the better when served cold. And thus the ‘Ice House’ part of the name. Very clever.

The plan is to have food trucks parked on the surrounding land to provide the food while The Wash Ice House will handle the drinks. A play area is also included, so bring the family and head on out.

If you are looking for a change of pace, come to Comfort to see what’s new and revisit all your favorites.  You can always find Comfort in Texas. Look for us again next month!
