The Deer defeated the defending TAPPS 4A state champions Schertz John Paul II in the championship match, avenging a loss in the first match of the tournament.

Senior outside hitter Meghan Davis was named Tournament MVP, while fellow seniors, libero Jackie Zapata and setter Molly Hamilton were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Deer team is 4-3 overall after an 0-2 start to the year. Comfort plays at Center Point Tuesday and then returns this weekend to play in the Center Point tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

On Thursday, the Deer lost to John Paul II, 25-23, 25-22. Comfort followed that up with wins over Dilley, 25-19, 25-15 and Pearsall, 25-18, 25-17.

Comfort returned on Saturday and opened the day with a win over Knippa, 25-16, 25-15 to advance to the championship match against JP II.

In the rematch, the Deer won in three tough sets. They dropped the first game, 25-16, but won the next two 25-21, 15-13.
