The Geneva School of Boerne girls basketball team kept its perfect district record in tact Tuesday when they visited St. Michael’s but the Eagles were tested by the Crusaders.
Geneva was trailing in the second half but a strong third quarter propelled the Eagles to a 46-43 win. Geneva is 20-1 overall and 10-0 in district. They are scheduled to visit Hyde Park in a battle of stateranked teams.
Geneva is No. 1 and Hyde Park is No. 2 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches TAPPS 5A girls rankings.
In Tuesday’s game, St. Michael’s was leading 11-5 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored the Eagles in the second, 12-9, for the 23-14 halftime advantage.
Geneva was trailing by 9 points at the half but the girls made their move in the third and were leading by the end of the quarter, 36-30 after they outscored the Crusaders in the period, 22-7.
It was back and forth in the final stanza and the Crusaders outscored the Eagles, 13-10, but Geneva held on for the third-point victory.
Micah Howard had a strong game and finished with 18 points for the Eagles, Brynn Riebel added 12 points, Maegan Riebel scored 7, Chloe Donnell finished with 6 and Alexa Elizondo chipped in with 3 points.
Maegan Riebel snagged 11 rebounds, Elizondo grabbed 8 boards and Brynn Riebel collected 7 rebounds. Elizondo also dished out 3 assists and came up with 4 steals, while Donnell also had 4 steals.
Against Brentwood Christian last Friday, Geneva knocked in 10 of 19 3-pointers and Chloe Donnell led the team with 14 points, while Maegan Riebel and Alexa Elizondo both netted 10.
Micah Howard was a point away from double digits with 9 points, Sydney Griffey added 7, Bethany DeLuna and Brynn Riebel both chipped in with 4, Morgan Howard and Hailey Kirchner dropped in 2 points apiece.
Griffey snagged 8 rebounds and dished out 3 assists, Alexa Elizondo had 8 steals, 6 boards and 3 assists, Micah Howard dished out 4 assists and Donnell came up with 6 steals.
